Food Safety Officer - Local Authority Location: EX31 3NP, On-site Start Date: 01/07/2024 Contract Duration: 3+ months Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 09:00 am - 05:00 pm, 37 hours per week Pay Rate: £43.69 per hour (PAYE) Job Description: We are seeking a Food and Safety Officer to join a Local Authority based in Devon. This role involves primarily inspecting food establishments (Catering and Distribution Centres - C&Ds) with some reactive work, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and standards. The officer will need to be competent in food safety practices as outlined in Chapter 3.4 of the Food Law Code of Practice. Key Responsibilities: Conducting inspections of food premises to ensure compliance with food safety regulations. Providing guidance and advice to food business operators on food safety practices. Using mobile solutions with Merlin software on a tablet for efficient report writing and database management. Undertaking APHA training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to qualify as an FCCO for Export Health Certificates. Ensuring availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and necessary food probes/IRT thermometers during inspections. Essential travel using a car, particularly in rural Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).Qualifications and Requirements: Hold a suitable qualification in food hygiene as specified in Chapter 3.4.1 of the Food Law Code of Practice. Experience in food safety enforcement and inspection practices. Ability to work independently and effectively manage workload priorities. Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide clear and concise advice.
