We are looking for a Manager who can thrive in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include leading the Performance Test Engineering team test and tools development efforts for our complex backend software services, analytics pipelines, reporting portals, and APIs. You will define the Performance Strategy, and implement it across several domains and concurrent projects, setting baseline automation for performance measurements and analysis, mentor teams on performance best practices, lead the automation of performance monitoring and improving system performance, orchestrate performance tests across services, and assist in the creation of processes, tools, and procedures. You will also build the necessary tools to enable development teams to run performance tests within their software capabilities.DescriptionThe Performance Testing Engineering group is a SWAT team of the Ads Platforms Engineering group responsible for building automation platforms, performance engineering, and other capabilities to improve the quality of Ad Platforms offerings while striving for efficiency to reduce time to market for features that impact the business bottom line. We operate at scale, think creatively, and build innovative technology frameworks to achieve quality goals. The performance engineering group works with multiple cross-functional teams within Ad Platforms as well as various teams across Apple to deliver quality products and set quality standards in a collaborative yet fast-paced environment. As a member of the Quality Engineering team, you will be responsible for developing comprehensive solutions and capabilities that help deliver quality products efficiently and effectively.8+ years of work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or MS in computer science or equivalent experienceAbility to effectively manage relationships with stakeholders, including product managers, development teams, and senior leadership.Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools, including skills in planning, scheduling, and executing performance testing projects, tracking progress, and managing resources effectively.Significant experience in software development in a Java/Linux environment and Performance Engineering of distributed systems and web services.Deep understanding of factors influencing the performance of software applications at multiple layers including services, databases, network, CPU and memory utilization, JVM and threads, query performance, etc.Strong knowledge of web services architecture and distributed systems at scale, developing comprehensive strategies for performance testing, measurement, monitoring and analysis, baselining, and performance tuning.Strong knowledge of open-source tools such as JMeter/Locust/Gatling/Tsung and the ability to evaluate other technologies to build an optimal tech stack for performance engineering.Strong database knowledge in Oracle, Cassandra, and performance optimization techniques.Experience in cloud-based performance testing in Docker containers, AWS, Git repository, and resilience engineering.Ability to lead performance optimization efforts coupled with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.Ability to work with open-ended problems, adapt to changing technology landscapes, and work under minimal supervision.Experienced in instilling a defensive programming culture across a large engineering organization.Preferred QualificationsExperience working with Big Data, Hadoop ecosystem, Kafka, Solr, and other cutting-edge technologies is a strong plus.Pay & BenefitsAt Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $219,300 and $329,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become Apple shareholders through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
