The Position

Human Resources Generalist

Located in Bowmanville Ontario, the Human Resources Generalist will be the key point of contact for all employees in our Bowmanville Cement Plant. This position reports into the manager of Human Resources Bowmanville. The HR Generalist will be assisting with the administrative workload, which will include supporting the payroll, benefits administration, labour relations, maintaining employee records, orientations, recruitment and employee relations. The Human Resources Generalist holds a key role in our day-to-day operations, and ensures that the company's human resources needs are being met in order to maintain positive relationships with all employees.


What will you do

  • Completes weekly payroll and overtime reporting for Bowmanville plant
  • Assist HR Manager with Labour Relations including managing Collective Agreement and training
  • Maintains department related information for monthly and quarterly reporting requirements and prepares data as requested on a routine and ad hoc basis.
  • Assist with all internal and external HR related inquiries or requests
  • Maintain and ensure that employee records are updated as necessary and are accurate
  • Supports organization's staffing needs
  • Assists with Temp to Full-Time conversions (notifications, letters, onboarding paperwork and scheduling and preparing for orientation sessions)
  • Processes all new hire paperwork
  • Assists department with administrative needs
  • Prepares mailings
  • Maintains and updates employee communication
  • Department filing and scanning compliance
  • Assists with coordinating annual and one-time facility-wide events
  • Coordinates company sponsored programs
  • Assists with facilitating company bereavement, service award and tuition reimbursement programs at plant level
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs.

Who you are

  • A degree from an accredited College or University and/or two to five years related experience and/or training/or equivalent combination of education and experience cement, concrete, cement, construction, or manufacturing industries with quality improvement, project management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of SAP HR module or equivalent ERP system
  • Knowledge of Ceridian & Kronos
  • Knowledge in relevant Canadian legislation and payroll
  • Strong time-management and organization skills
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility to changing work priorities
  • Very strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Confidentiality of data
  • Successful candidate must show proof that they are fully vaccinated for coronavirus by start date.
