Our client, a commercial bakery is seeking a passionate and creative Food Scientist. In this role you’ll thrive in a fast-paced working environment bringing a growth mindset to generate success for their customers and consumers with strong baking/manufacturing experience.

Reporting to the Director of R&D and Quality, the right individual will lead the new product development and continuous improvement activities, develop new products from scratch formulations, improve existing formulation/process and ensure that all new products comply with food safety protocols and applicable legislation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage the product lifecycle including conceptualization, design, trials, creation and evaluation of new concepts, recipes, and products for targeted markets or customers and final product specifications
  • Design formulation and food production procedures for the development and improvement of manufacturing processes for unique or large-scale opportunities, ensuring efficiency and food safety principles and standards compliance.
  • Prepare finished products to the highest quality and applicable standards for marketing activities including promotional materials, photoshoots and customer events
  • Set up products through commercialization process, including preparing product specification, Ingredient list and nutritional fact table for US and Canada
  • Support CI team in assessing the appropriate process technologies for progressing innovation, margin improvement / productivity, quality improvement and overall portfolio optimization across their assigned suite of products

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Food Science or a related Science/ Engineering degree
  • 5+ years’ proven experience in baking, product development and manufacturing industries
  • Knowledge of ingredients functionality, product evaluation, food safety and nutrition, food manufacturing processes, sensory science, and market research principles
  • Knowledge of Retail, Consumer Packaged Goods is an asset
