The Opportunity: SEASTAR, part of Avantor, is looking for a high energy Environmental, Health, Safety, Security & Sustainability (EHS3) Senior Specialist. This position is responsible for supporting the organization in maintaining and improving workplace safety, monitoring all security, hygienic, and environment control standards to mitigate risk. The EHS3 Senior Specialist will also compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents, investigate occupational accidents, and analyze their causes to prevent them. They will also lead/facilitate workplace safety and security trainings for associates. This role is a full-time position based in Sidney, BC.

What we’re looking for:

Diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (OSH)

5+ years of Environmental Health and Safety experience

Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or ability to obtain

Experience in chemical manufacturing environment.

Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office- PowerPoint, Excel and Word

Strong interpersonal skills

Must have a working knowledge of operational and technical issues and concepts, and an understanding of the associated EHS3 requirements.

Emergency Response Team guidance

Manage waste disposal and recycling programs

Complete ergonomic assessments

Coordinate fire drills and emergency response procedures

Lead the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee

Monitor first aid certifications and maintain first aid kits

Assure compliance with regulatory agencies, governing jurisdictional and certification bodies as it relates to EHS3. This includes but is not limited to: Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Ministry of Environment, Capital Regional District and WorkSafeBC.

Develop, /improve and execute EHS3 programs.

Consult with associates and supervisors as to specific safety, chemical, or handling concerns.

Perform Job Hazard Analysis’ (JHA) for specific tasks.

Assist with company internal safety audits and improvements to the safety program.

Respond to and investigate company incidents and accidents in accordance with corporate requirements.

Complete and review existing regulatory registrations and permits that are local, provincial, or federal.

Advise management on current, new, and proposed regulations.

Provide regulatory path and strategy for existing and new process applications.

Support EHS3 training.

Verify that new equipment complies with safety regulations and requirements.

Ensure site wastewater compliance.

Ensure air emission compliance.

Performs other duties as assigned by the EHS3 Manager.
