Product Engineering Manager

Reports to: Director - New Product Development Job Summary: Manage direct reports within the Research & Development - Gas Hearth Products department. To develop new hearth products for the Company for world markets. To oversee and lead testing procedures, report preparation and approval, equipment, and calibration of such for the purpose of designing products that meet and exceed safety and performance standards. To liaison between the Company and third-party testing agencies for the purpose of certifying these products to the applicable national standards. To interact as required with customers, suppliers, and Company departments for the successful integration of these products into the company portfolio. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities: Review product development to meet Government standards and company Quality Assurance. Hire, train, and supervise the necessary staff to fulfill the department’s responsibilities. Coordinate product testing, methods, reports, and maintenance thereof to meet National standards and third-party compliance. Develop and maintain Engineering and inspection acceptance criteria and testing including report documents and maintenance of said documents. Review and approve Engineering change notices; Review and approve product improvements ideas; Review product and parts costs; Review patents for the Company and competitors' products. Plan and maintain product projects, particularly third-party test laboratory certification costs. Maintain instrument calibration and laboratory status to allow third-party testing at the Company test sites. Develop and maintain the CAD/CAM, ERP, and publishing software and files as it relates to the Research & Development department and interface with the rest of the Company. Develop and maintain all forms of correspondence and testing in the Research & Development department. Prepare information to apply for Government grants and tax credits that apply to the department. Inspect Research & Development for safety and abide by the Joint Health and Safety committee observations and directives. Education and Experience: University Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Ten (10) years of experience working in a Manufacturing facility demonstrating a progression of increased responsibility as it relates to the development of household consumer products or demonstrated equivalency. Professional Engineering (P. Eng) designation or registration with the Province of Ontario or equivalent. Knowledge of ERP systems, CAD systems. Knowledge of product testing and National safety standards with third-party certification. A working knowledge in Lean Manufacturing, six sigma, 5S, and other related management tools.
