The Strategic Resource Options (SRO) Directorate is a newly established team set up to develop a multi-billion pound portfolio of infrastructure projects which will ensure the resilience of our customer's water supply in response to trends in population growth and climate change. The team will guide the projects through the development, planning and delivery processes, working closely with regulators, local authorities and the Government to ensure that the proposed infrastructure solutions provide drought resilience whilst ensuring value for money to Thames Water customers and minimising environmental impacts. 


What you’ll be doing as a Business Manager 
  • As the Directorate Business Manager, you’ll report directly to the SRO Director and be expected to work closely with members of the senior leadership team. You will have a wide-ranging brief which could see you managing the process to provide regular briefings to the Executive and the Board one day, and troubleshooting a governance, strategic or stakeholder issue the next. 
  • You will be a key advisor to the Director, providing a view on any changes to plans and processes, as well as horizon scanning on their behalf to anticipate any potential problems or pitfalls.?? You’ll also work closely with colleagues in other departments to maximise collaboration and ensure the work of the SRO team is well understood and represented to the rest of the organisation. 
  • In this role, you’ll have an opportunity to build on your experience working at a senior level and gain full insight into key discussions and decision-making regarding the business, whilst taking ownership of a range of exciting projects. This position offers you a rare opportunity to gain a broad view of how we manage a successful, high-performing department and increase your understanding and network across Thames Water.

  • Have the ability to build strong, working relationships, utilising your excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyse technical information and data, and present the findings to the Board, Executive Team and Stakeholders.
  • Be empowered to self-manage work load and take a proactive approach to deliver change 
  • Evaluate problems and identify solutions.
  • Take ownership of your workload and prioritise tasks.
  • Possess excellent written communication skills, including strong presentation skills 
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Deliver exceptional results through an enthusiastic and positive approach, taking accountability for your role while working accurately and flexibly within a busy team.
  • Have demonstrable experience using Microsoft packages.
  • You will need to be discrete and maintain confidentiality as required, both during the role and after.

This is a hybrid role based from our London or Reading office. There is a requirement to attend the office a minimum of twice a week. 
  • Competitive salary from £55,000 to £70,000 per annum depending on experience.
