Position overview

Vetster is looking for an Engineering Technical Lead to guide an agile cross-functional engineering team developing incredible product features that deliver value to pet owners and veterinary professionals. We build complex, globally distributed systems leveraging Laravel, Postgres, Redis, Elasticsearch, Vue, and React Native. Working with the Director of Engineering, the Technical Lead is responsible for architecting, building, testing, and operationalizing backend, frontend, and mobile applications with a cross-functional team. You are also an experienced, empathetic leader who can mentor other engineers and support them in their career growth.

Common responsibilities will include:

  • Participate in the full development life cycle, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Drive innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development.
  • Partner closely with Product, UXD, UXR, and Data Engineering teams to craft great digital product experiences.
  • Lead code reviews and uphold high standards in software development.
  • Provide technical and leadership mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of growth and personal development.
  • Assess business and product requirements, evaluating the technical viability of proposed solutions.
  • Play a critical role in project planning, offering insights on timelines, requirements, and potential challenges.
  • Communicate progress, issues, and risks in a timely manner

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in application design, development, and testing, with a preference for familiarity with Laravel, Vue, and React Native.
  • Minimum 3 years in a leadership role managing engineering projects, mentoring team members, and overseeing project execution.
  • Proficient in API development and experience with various database systems.
  • Solid understanding of cloud architectures (AWS preferred) and contemporary DevOps/SRE practices.
  • Advanced competency in automated testing and source control systems, particularly Git.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment
  • Strong communication skills working with cross-functional stakeholders
